Who is this Bourdain and why are we worshipping him now? I can understand why he was worshipped in times past, but now?
GG Mora
Fuck Bourdain, can't we just make Kiku our pet celebrity?

This thread brought tears to my eyes from laughing so hard.

I like Bourdain. I loved Cook's Tour, and I read Kitchen Confidential in two days, loved it too. I do think his new show isn't quite as good as Cook's Tour. It's not bad, but it seems that an hour is a bit long, and you can sorta tell when they ran out of interesting stuff to include. Lots of shots of him making inane comments that don't really add content. But that doesn't change how I feel about him, because CT convinced me that he has a great travel philosophy, his outlook and attitude is very similar to mine. When I read those two books, I kept saying to myself "YES right on!" about his views about food and where it comes from, and his views about travel and respecting the culture you are visiting, and being open to new experiences and sharing his trepidation about certain things, and not being afraid to show his own vulnerabilities. I just identify with the guy on a lot of levels. And yeah, he's, um, attractive. blush.gif

Welcome back. I was thinking about ya today. Like when golf??
macrosan
Golf ? Whaddat ??? laugh.gif

I played an alleged round of golf this morning. Dropped six shots on the front nine, sixteen on the back. From now on, I think I'll just stick to the front nine wink.gif

When we gonna play, Tiger ? And where ?
ngatti
Get over here before the leaves bury the course. I'll take two strokes a hole, no prob. If you're shootin' 90s I may have a chance. wink.gif

Right now I'm looking at an early December trip to ol' blighty with my son. The planning is in the infant stages, more later.

I'll work on that next week. Time I got a bird's eye view of the pond again biggrin.gif

I have received a large number of PMs in the last half hour from people complaining that this discussion should be moved to the Sport forum. I want to assure everyone that any discussion about Mr Gatti and myself playing golf does not belong in a "Sport" forum. Doubters are very welcome to join us for a round next month at Alpine CC

Should the comment about you shooting "in the 90s" be subjected to a Psaltis-like analysis?

Back to bourdain (as all things ultimately must in the cycle of time, the whirlpools of wonder, the cyclones of sighs, the swirl in the sink).

I bought Bourdain's Les Halles cookbook over the weekend. Never before has a cookbook made me laugh out loud. The introduction was full of classic Bourdainisms, and I am relatively sure that this is the only cookbook that includes "motherfucker" in one of the recipes.
Beyond the clever writing and hilarious metaphors, it is a solid bistro cookbook that includes all the classics along with no-nonsense advice and tips on technique.

I think there is a clause in the user agreement that you are not allowed to use this phrase or especially the variant, "classic Tony!".

"Typical of his wit and personailty" is ok.

Bourdain invented the recipe for cooking up meth and crack? Man, he must be a lot more loaded than I thought.

I dunno--I think if I were to write a cookbook, and if it were to reflect what goes on in my kitchen with any sort of verisimilitude, then 'motherfucker' might very well pop up in the text.
